The legal representatives of Odila Castillo Bonilla provided a reply on October 1st regarding the allegations that were reported in various Panamanian news outlets.
These reports have been characterized as assaults driven by specific economic motives, intended to tarnish Castillo’s professional image and personal life.
Carlos Carillo, a member of Castillo’s legal counsel, stated: “The allegations lack any basis and are designed to obstruct the career of a young attorney, as well as that of her associate, for the advantage of concealed financial motives.”
The defense defense of Odila Castillo
The defense emphasized that this is not the initial media assault that Castillo has encountered. In 2021, a Panamanian news outlet inaccurately claimed that the lawyer had been arrested in connection with an investigation, a statement that was subsequently refuted, clarifying that it had no connection to the matter at hand.
In the press conference, the defense highlighted that both the current allegations and those from 2021 are founded on partial truths, aimed at undermining her professional career.
Furthermore, they contended that the information released regarding Odila in the media violates confidentiality principles. They clarified that a portion of the investigation stemmed from a family matter that has already been resolved, while another aspect involves immigration activities and tax filings, along with other information obtained unlawfully.
Unauthorized monitoring of Odila Castillo
It was also mentioned by the defense that Castillo has been subjected to GPS tracking, which amounts to a form of unlawful surveillance.
Carrillo wrapped up by asserting: “The essential rights of our client have been infringed upon, as outlined by our Constitution and the law. We will pursue all required legal measures to establish accountability for the harm inflicted and that which is sought to be inflicted.”
